The future of Dalhousie University rests on the calibre of its academic appointments. A thoughtful and well-conducted search process is crucial to making outstanding academic appointments. The University believes that diversity among its faculty members contributes to excellence. The Policy on Employment Equity through Affirmative Action aims to increase the representation and participation of the following designated groups in its workforce:

Academic Recruitment Process
General
The appropriate Vice President, the Deans, the University Librarian and any other administrator of the University recommending an academic appointment are responsible for ensuring the application of appropriate procedures and of employment equity to all academic appointments and to appointments of academic administrators. In this connection they work with both the Vice-President Academic and Provost and the Human Rights & Equity Advisor on all relevant recruitment activity. "Academic appointments" includes faculty members, professional librarians, instructors, counselors and continuing education professionals. "Academic administrators" includes Chairs, Heads, Directors, Assistant Deans, Associate Deans, Deans.
